Effie Gikas Tchobanian, Esq.

Senior Attorney

Since her admission to the Massachusetts bar in 2002, Attorney Effie Gikas Tchobanian has built a distinguished career as a litigator, representing clients in state and federal courts. She has successfully advocated for clients in the Massachusetts Superior Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court. She has also advanced cases in the United States District Court and the United States Court of Appeals.

Attorney Tchobanian focuses her practice on divorce and family law at Turco Legal, including the division of marital assets, alimony, child custody, and child support matters. She handles post-judgment modifications, contempt matters, and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements as well. While Attorney Tchobanian has a proven track record as a litigator, her clients most appreciate her empathetic approach to her cases.

Attorney Tchobanian is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, as well as the United States District Court, the United States Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Notable Family Law Experience

Attorney Tchobanian’s representation in divorce cases has presented complex and challenging issues, including the unique financials encountered in representing top executives, professional athletes, land developers, and entrepreneurs. Her representation has included the division of multi-million-dollar estates and other unique assets, and custodial issues. It has also required the tracking of offshore accounts, dissolution of business assets, and contempt actions.

Attorney Tchobanian’s strong legal research and writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills extend from trial-level initial filings to Supreme Judicial Court appellate argument—experience that only a small fraction of family law attorneys attain.

Certified Financial Litigator: Handling Complex Financial Issues

Attorney Tchobanian is a member of the American Academy for Certified Financial Litigators (“AACFL”), from which she earned her Certified Financial Litigator (“CFL”) designation.* The AACFL explains that AACFL membership “is reserved for an elite group of practitioners dedicated to meeting the highest standards of financial representation and of ethical practice.”

An attorney’s financial knowledge—as it relates to a divorce or other family law matter—can significantly impact the outcome of the case. This is especially true for clients with complicated financial circumstances. By obtaining her CFL accreditation, Attorney Tchobanian has distinguished herself. To become a CFL, a litigator must first complete comprehensive training on the financial aspects of litigation. The litigator must then pass the CFL exam, testing their knowledge. Training and exam topics include, but are not limited to, complex compensation structures, taxation, investments, business and asset valuation, and accounting.

Attorney Tchobanian’s experience advancing the cases of high-earners and those with complex financials coupled with her advanced CFL training enables her to effectively and efficiently negotiate and resolve financially complicated matters.
