Kristin Sherman, Esq.

Partner

Licensed in 2004, Attorney Kristin Sherman is a seasoned family law and divorce attorney, and an exceptional advocate. Attorney Sherman has successfully represented countless clients in a broad range of domestic relations matters. Her areas of expertise include divorce, alimony, division of marital assets, child custody and support, and parenting time. Attorney Sherman also has extensive experience in managing modification and contempt cases.

Distinctive Experience with Complex Child Custody and Parenting Issues

Attorney Sherman served on the Children and Family Law Trial Panel of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (“CPCS”) before joining Turco Legal. In this role, she represented parties in complex custody matters. Attorney Sherman’s cases involved abuse and neglect, as well as child abandonment.

Challenging circumstances involving children often emerge in divorce and family law cases. Given her experience managing difficult child-related matters, Attorney Sherman is well-equipped to represent clients in custody battles and parenting time cases.

In addition to her child custody work, Attorney Sherman was also a bar advocate for CPCS’ Delinquency and District Court Trial Panel.

Certified Financial Litigator: A Deeper Understanding of Complex Financial Issues

Attorney Sherman is a member of the American Academy for Certified Financial Litigators (“AACFL”).* The AACFL provides advanced financial training to its members. As the organization explains, this training enables members to manage the financial aspects of litigation in a more credible and cost-efficient manner for their clients. The AACFL also gives members the opportunity to earn their Certified Financial Litigator (“CFL”) credential.

Attorney Sherman obtained her CFL designation from the AACFL. The CFL designation requires, first, the completion of rigorous training on the financial aspects of litigation. Training topics include complex compensation structures, asset and business valuation, accounting, investments, and taxation. Second, the litigator must pass a certification exam that evaluates their knowledge and understanding.

Attorney Sherman’s deeper understanding of the complex financial issues that may arise in a case, coupled with her extensive divorce and family law experience, positions her to form well-reasoned and effective legal arguments and successfully resolve her matters.

Divorce and Family Law Mediator

Attorney Sherman is not only a zealous litigator, she is also Turco Legal’s lead divorce and family law mediator. Having undergone robust mediator training—on topics ranging from child development and post-divorce parenting to resolving high-conflict matters—she leads efficient and effective mediation sessions for parties seeking to conclude their divorce or family law case without the cost or obtrusiveness of litigation. Attorney Sherman has repeatedly proven herself to be a creative problem-solver, capable of assisting parties in reaching agreements that resolve their divorce and family law matters.

Active in the Newburyport Community

Beyond her passion for the practice of law, Attorney Sherman believes in the importance of giving back to the community. To that end, she has served on the building commission of the Emma Andrews Public Library in Newburyport. She has also volunteered in various roles with the Newburyport Public Schools.
