Maria Rivera-Cotto, Esq.

Senior Attorney II

A Respected Advocate with Deep Roots in Worcester

Maria Rivera-Cotto brings more than 25 years of legal experience to her role as Senior Attorney II at Turco Legal’s Worcester office. Nearly all of her work has focused on family law—guiding clients through divorce, custody, child support, guardianship, and related matters with a balanced approach grounded in empathy and strategic planning. Fluent in Spanish, Maria routinely represents Spanish-speaking clients across Massachusetts, ensuring that language is never a barrier to understanding or advocacy.

A Career Shaped by Public Service and Community Leadership

Before entering private practice, Maria built her legal foundation in public service. She worked for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) as a licensed social worker before attending law school, then went on to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Worcester for two years. She later spent a year in legal services, advocating for underserved populations and deepening her understanding of systemic family law issues.

In 2013, Maria opened her own law office in Worcester, quickly earning a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and tenacity. Her solo practice became a trusted resource for families navigating emotionally complex legal matters—particularly in the Worcester community, where she remains deeply connected.

Active Leadership in the Legal and Local Communities

Maria currently serves as General Counsel and Central Region Vice President of the Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition, Inc., a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women of color. She also serves as a mentor through the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Tiered Community Mentoring Program, supporting future attorneys from diverse backgrounds.

Her contributions have been recognized with community service awards from both the Massachusetts and Worcester County Bar Associations, and she continues to volunteer as a conciliator for the Worcester County Bar Association.

Clear, Practical Guidance for Complex Family Matters

Maria’s practice is shaped by her experience in both social work and law. She brings a steady, client-centered approach to family law, helping people make informed decisions under pressure. Her work is built on clarity, preparation, and purposeful legal strategy—whether she’s negotiating settlement agreements or representing clients in court.

Originally from Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, and raised in Worcester, Maria’s deep ties to the region inform her work and her commitment to serving the community with care and cultural sensitivity.
